A Story of "For Real (There's Nothing Quite Like the Blinding Light)."

Our brand-new CD single is called “For Real (There’s Nothing Quite Like the Blinding Light).” It contains the songs “For Real,” which is the second track on the new full-length record Black Sheep Boy. On the priced-to-move CD single release, though, you’ll find “For Real” in a different and slightly longer version than on the record. You’ll also find the diverting Black Sheep Boy outtake “The Next Four Months”- being a novelty song about a terminal pharmaceutical binge - and a recording of us very drunk but still managing to play “For the Enemy” mostly correctly and more or less in tune (but stretched out to 10 minutes) at Schuba’s in Chicago. There is at least one totally hilarious harmonica note in this latter piece, and my vocals boast precious few distinct consonants. All I can say in my defense is that I was really feeling it at the time.

Artwork for “For Real (There’s Nothing Quite Like the Blinding Light”) was done by our dear friend William Schaff Will also created the beautiful artwork for the upcoming full-length - the cover of the single is one of the pieces from that batch that we decided to especially set aside.

There were quite a lot of outtakes from Black Sheep Boy, including most of the songs called “Black Sheep Boy,” of which there were originally six (I think). We changed the names of some of these and stuck them on the eponymous album, the rest may come later. It really all depends on whether or not we have time to finish all the outtakes and mixes from this record and whether or not you people get sick of us. Which please please please don’t get sick of us; I’m having too much fun.

Out March 1st.
